Remind Yourself Why

"If you're not making much progress, it's time to give yourself a boost. Remind yourself why."~Ralph Marston

Remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Remind yourself why you selected the priorities that you now follow. Remind yourself why you are where you are.

Perhaps it is time to focus on a new destination. Or perhaps you could simply use a good, clear reminder of what's truly important to you. What IS important to you and Why? When was the last time you thought that?

It can be all too easy to get caught up and dragged down by the day-to-day business of life. To deal with all the crap that comes your way, other people's bad attitudes, mean people and things that cause us to forget WHY. Take time to regularly give yourself the benefit of the big picture.

Take time to treasure the things you treasure. Admire, appreciate and be inspired by all that is beautiful to you. Take the time to be inspired this weekend. Do something that you love to do and haven't done in a while because of dealing with all the stuff thrown at you.

The best of what can be is yours to create and experience. It is your choice to either do it or not. IT IS YOUR CHOICE, NO ONE ELSE'S. Remind yourself why, and make it so.

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

"If you're not making much progress, it's time to give yourself a boost. Remind yourself why."

The Reality of Your Dreams

"Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away."

Do you realize that nothing is as real as a dream? Most people can't understand that. Your dreams can be as real as you want them to be, but unfortunately, most people choose to leave their dreams in lala land and never take any action toward making the dream happen.

Your world can change around you, but your dream remains. Responsibilities can't take your dreams away, only you can take your dreams away. Your dream is within YOU. You are the chief caretaker of your dreams. Are you keeping them safe, in your head or are you taking a chance with your dreams, taking action, taking your dream froms your head and bringing it in to your reality?

This is your choice. You get to choose. No one else has a say in it. Choose wisely.

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

The Dignity of Choice

"Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do?~Jim Rohn

Why, when you have been given the "dignity of choice" would anyone choose to be less than they can be? Is it because it's too hard? Is it too much work? Does it interfere with your surfing on the web or playing video games or the Wii?

A tree, given no choice, simply grows and grows and grows until it dies. I've been to most of the National Parks in the country, and I have seen some weird growing trees, around rocks, through rocks, trees shaped like a Z to grow around an obstruction...but still growing.

You being less than you can be does nothing for the world or yourself. Why play that game? There is so much more out there for you to go after...DO IT! Stretch to the full measure of what you've been put here to do and DO IT! Don't wait for someone else to tell you what to do, but if you need permission to DO IT, I GIVE YOU PERMISSION.

Mark Twain said that "In 5 years, you will be more upset about the things that you didn't do, instead of the things that you did do." Don't regret not doing what you were meant to do.

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

Choice or Chance?

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved."~W.J. Bryant

Are you waiting for destiny to happen to you? A lot of people are and guess what? For them, it will never come!! It's not a matter of waiting until your "ship comes in," you have to swim out to meet it!

It is a matter of choice, not a matter of chance.

Most people meticulously plan their 2 weeks of vacation but don't bother to plan their life. HOW CRAZY IS THAT? They think that their destiny will just happen to them. Sorry to burst your bubble here, but that just ain't happening.

The future just doesn't happen, it's shaped by the decisions we make. Every decision we make will go into how our future will look. Do you think about that before making decisions, or are you just making the decision based on what's good for right now?

Destiny isn't something to be waited for...it is something to be achieved! And just because you haven't gotten where you want to be, that isn't a good enough excuse to wait even one minute longer.

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved."

Opportunity or Obstacle?

"What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity." ~J. Sidlow Baxter

How do you see obstacles? Do you see them as roadblocks or stumbling blocks. Roadblocks might require you to go back and then around them while stumbling blocks just knock us off course a little and then we correct our way and continue on.

Too many times, people let the obstacles in their way dictate whether or not they do or finish something. Don't let an obstacle stop you from doing what you want or need to do.

Every opportunity has obstacles that we must overcome. And every obstacle has opportunity waiting for it to be found. Do you look for the opportunity or do you just see the obstacle? Most people will say. "No, I see the opportunity," but do they really, or are they just saying that because that is what they are supposed to say?

How is you attitude today? Is it ready to find the opportunities or is it stuck on the obstacles???

Make sure that YOUR ATTITUDE is in the right frame of mind. Remember, it's YOUR CHOICE! YOU get to choose your attitude!

"What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity."

Failure NO, Feedback YES

"There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go." ~Richard Bach

Our society has programmed us to believe that mistakes and failures are to be avoided AT ALL COSTS. This is just plain wrong. How will we ever learn and grow if not from our mistakes and failures. I choose to look at failures as feedback, nothing more, nothing less. It is showing me that what I'm doing is not the best way to do whatever it is that I'm doing.

We have learned to castigate failures, to scorn them, laugh at them, put them down...With these actions tied into failure, it's easy to see why our society tells us to avoid it at all costs. But what if we ALL looked at failure as the feedback that we need to do things better? Now that's not so bad is it.

Thomas Watson, founder of IBM said that "The fastest way to success is to fail faster." But if we are avoiding failure, then the opportunity for success remains at a distance.

Work on seeing what you might call "failure" as feedback. And see how it affects your frame of mind and thought process.

"There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go."

The End of Your World?

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly." ~Richard Bach

Do you only see the end of the world? Or are you able to see the next step?

Emerson said that "Few people have an next, they live from hand to mouth without a plan, and are always at the end of their line." Is that you? It doesn't have to be! You can choose right now to have a plan, to put it into action and move forward and see the butterfly!

What do you call the end of the world? Is that the extent of what you can see? If so, that's too bad, because for many people, they are destined to lived in that dark, hopeless world, only seeing the bad and never celebrating the good.

Think of the transformation of the caterpillar...He sees its world changing and it going through something, but not really knowing what...Goes to sleep for a while, wakes up and it has WINGS, and is stuck in this sticky place that it must break free of. It struggles and struggles (because there is nothing anyone else can do to help him...might be something to learn there...) and finally breaks FREE!!!

Before, it was limited to crawling along the ground, slowly, with danger all around it...Now, it can FLY! It is free to go wherever it wants to go!!! How could this be reflected in your life?

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly."

Are You Working On Yourself?

“If you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” ~Mr. Shoaf (Jim Rohn’s mentor)

Are you working harder on yourself than your job? Really? How are you doing that?

We all try to work hard at our jobs, but how much time do we really spend working on improving OURSELVES? Sure you might go to the gym, run, exercise and eat right, but how much time are you spending on improving YOUR MIND? Are you learning new words to expand your vocabulary? Are you learning new and better ways to make decisions? Are you learning new things? Maybe a new language, studying about history of The United States, not the history you were taught in government schools...

Every little bit of time we work on improving ourselves gets paid back wioth compounded interest, so spend a little time working on YOU. And then, start spending more time working on YOU. You will be surprised and happy about the results...

“If you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.”

What Are You Doing For Others?

Life's most urgent question is: what are you doing for others? --Martin Luther King, Jr.

What
are YOU doing for others? This used to be important, 20, 30 years ago and we got away from it, but now, people are starting to realize that it is what is MOST important to almost anything. It is no longer "what can I get for myself," but "How can I serve others?"

So I ask again, what are YOU doing for others? Think about it for a while. This goes beyond what your business does for others, what are YOU DOING FOR OTHERS? And How are you doing this for others? And Why are you doing this for others?

Emerson said that "A man cannot truly help another person, without it helping himself." Do you realize that is the way the world works? When you help others, when you do for others, you end up helping yourself? We as a society have fallen into the "ME" trap. Here in the United States, it used to be US. But with political correctness, we've been divided into groups and classes.

It used to be "One for All and All for One," but we've been duped into believing that if I become part of a group, I can get what I want. What happened to the rugged individualism that made this country great? What happened to American Exceptionalism? We've thrown it away all for diversity!!!

King also said, in his "I have a dream speech," that he hoped that someday, "his children would be judged on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin." I wonder what he would say about today's society?

Life's most urgent question is: what are you doing for others?

Clarity of Mind and Passion

“Clarity of mind means clarity of passion, too; this is why a great and clear mind loves ardently and sees distinctly what it loves." ~Blaise Pascal

Do you have clarity of mind? Really? Most people don't and that is their biggest challenge to getting the things they want. They aren't clear on what they really want. They say I want this or I want that and never become CRYSTAL CLEAR on what it is that they truly want. Take some time right now and think if you are Crystal Clear on what you want, because without it, you're just wasting your time.

Do you have clarity of passion? If you don't have clarity of the mind, you can't have clarity of passion. You can have passion but if it isn't clear, it isn't as white hot as it can be. Most people have some passion and they may even say it's real strong passion but imagine your passion 10 times stronger, 20 times stronger. That is what will happen when you have clarity of passion.

Work on having Clarity of Mind and Clarity of Passion today and let me know how it went and how different you felt.

“Clarity of mind means clarity of passion, too; this is why a great and clear mind loves ardently and sees distinctly what it loves."

Who Are You?

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”~ Oscar Wilde

Are you you? Or are you what someone else wanted you to be? Maybe your parents, teachers, peers? Did you do stuff to please other people or did you do stuff that you wanted to do? Who are you? Think about it for a while and then try to decide if you are being authentic or you're being what others want you to be.

Are your thoughts someone else's opinions or are they yours? Have you washed other people's opinion through your brain and come up with what you believe or are you just living a mimicry? You can believe what other's tell you but be sure to run it through your own analyzer (brain) and make sure that you can say, "yes, I believe that too." Because you thought about it, not because someone else said it.

Quotations are a passion of mine, but my passion isn't a quotation. There's a mind-bender...figure it out? Is your passion just a quotation or is it real, vivid, alive, driving you forward?

Like we talked about yesterday, passion is the wind that drives your sail and nothing great was ever done without passion. What is your passion???
(And it can't be work)

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

Passion and Reason

“Our passions are the winds that propel our vessel. Our reason is the pilot that steers her. Without winds the vessel would not move and without a pilot she would be lost."

How fast is your ship sailing? Does it have the full gale force of passion behind it or is it just meandering slowly across the water? Does the passion come and go like a gust or is it steady, moving you in the direction that you want to go?

Is your vessel lost? Is it without a pilot to steer her? Does the pilot know clearly where it is headed or is the place just 'somewhere over there?' Does the pilot have the knowledge to know what to do when the gale force winds of passion drive the ship?

As you think about your ship and the destination that you are headed to, what do you see? Are there storm clouds ahead or will it be smooth sailing? Maybe it will be a little of both, but are you ready for anything?

“Our passions are the winds that propel our vessel. Our reason is the pilot that steers her. Without winds the vessel would not move and without a pilot she would be lost."

Invest In Your Future

"Every 15 minutes invested in your future is a deposit that will grow and compound over time. It may not seem like a big deal now -- whether you spend that time surfing the Internet or updating your Rolodex -- but in the long run, it will make all the difference in the world." ~Michael Masterson

We are all busy. We all have multiple responsibilities. But success is a result of your behavior. And the way you act when you have spare time is a crucial part of it.

Are you even investing 15 minutes a day in your future? Why not? It will grow and compound over time, but you have to start somewhere. Start with 15 minutes, start with 10 minutes, even 5 minutes but start investing something in your future.

The hardest part is simply starting, so just do it. What are you waiting for? Your future to come to you? It's not going to happen. Create your future. You can start with 5 minutes a day.

Carpe Diem

"Every 15 minutes invested in your future is a deposit that will grow and compound over time. It may not seem like a big deal now -- whether you spend that time surfing the Internet or updating your Rolodex -- but in the long run, it will make all the difference in the world."

Your Potential

"There is no limit to your potential. For there is no limit to what you can imagine, and whatever you can imagine, you can bring into your life."~Ralph Marston

When you focus your imagination on positive possibilities, and you focus your efforts on making them real, you can bring them into your life. Most people say, "I'll believe it when I see it" when what they should be saying is "When I believe it, then I will see it." Look at the power of that phrase when you change a couple of words around...

Our imagination is unlimited, but we have trained our brains to limit our imagination to only things that we think are possible. When most people set goals, they are usually goals that they think they can achieve. Most people don't set BHAG goals or Big, Hairy Audacious Goals. A BHAG is a goal that you don't believe that you can do and the only way you can reach it is to stretch further than we thought we could, so most people choose goals that are acceptable, reachable, safe.

Screw safe goals. Set goals that you have no way to know if you can achieve them and just start working on them. As you start, you realize that you can do a little of it and then you can do a little more, till finally, you did it all.

Think of all the things that once were deemed impossible that are now commonplace. Thomas Watson of IBM said, "the world-wide market for computers is about 5, that's all." Really? Who would have believed that there is more computing power in your cell phone than the command module of the lunar missions?

You have a unique potential. Explore that potential. Make a Difference.

"There is no limit to your potential. For there is no limit to what you can imagine, and whatever you can imagine, you can bring into your life."

Make A Difference

“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.” ~Sir Cecil Beaton

Are you daring? Different? Impractical? What sets you apart from everybody else? Really? Do you have an imaginative vision of what is ahead for you or are you just trucking on down the road, without a thought of what's ahead?

A slave to the ordinary...is that you? Are you a creature of the commonplace? It's real easy to get into a rut of the ordinary. You know what the definition of a rut is? It is a coffin with the ends kicked out, that's what a rut is. Think about that as you go about your day, the same way, day after day after day.

Know. Be Known. Make a Difference! You will never make a difference being ordinary. You won't be known for being a creature of the commonplace.

How can you step out of the ordinary, out of the commonplace? It's different for each individual and you need to seek it out for yourself. I challenge you as this new year is getting started to step out of the ordinary, to be different, to be daring. I challenge you to stop being a "play-it-safer" kind of person.

Make a Difference!

“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.”

Everything You Want

"Everything you want is outside your Comfort Zone. If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will settle for the ordinary."

Now, unless you are happy with where you are, you do realize that "Everything you want is OUTSIDE of your Comfort Zone, right? You can't continue doing the same things and expect different results. Where you are now has been based on your current thinking, but your current thinking will not be able to lift you out of this spot. You need new thinking...that's right NEW thinking, or at least different thinking to help you get what you want. Getting out of your Comfort Zone is not always easy and sometimes it's even irritating, but you have to do it if you are going to get what you want.

"If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will settle for the ordinary." Are you willing to risk the unusual or are you too deeply ingrained in your Comfort Zone that you can't? Have you settled for the ordinary when you could have had the extraordinary?

Reminds me of another of my favorite quotes and that is "The space for what you want is currently occupied by what you have settled for." This doesn't just mean material things, but relationships, jobs and thoughts. What have you realized now that you've settled for? Can you change that? Do you even want to change it or do you want to continue in your comfort Zone and ordinary?

"Everything you want is outside your Comfort Zone. If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will settle for the ordinary."

Pretensious Nonsense

"Children respond when you are genuine and vulnerable with them. So do adults. Let's cut out the pretentious nonsense and get real in everything we do."~Tom Asacker

Are you ready to cut out the "pretentious nonsense?" Really? What role have you been playing so long that you don't even recognize that it is a role and not who you really are? Start getting real in everything that you do. How would that change your life?

People respond to genuineness and vulnerability. Can you show these qualities or are you too trained never to show emotion, either good or bad? Especially in business. That used to be me. I was a stoic and never realized that I was unable to show emotion or vulnerability. I've been remembering who I was when I was me. Not that genuine stoic who I trained myself to be, but being able to be both genuine and vulnerable...and it FEELS good and bad, but it FEELS. I haven't had feelings like these for a long time.

Jonathan Swift said "May you live all the days of your life." I know that I haven't always done that. I've played a part, but not lived, not really. Is that you too? Have you lived all the days of your life or have you just mailed some in? Maybe you just didn't want to live that day. Never allow that to happen to you. You lose too much not LIVING all the days of your life!

Learn from my example. It doesn't pay to be ungenuine or unvulnerable. It's just not worth it in the long run.

"MAY YOU LIVE ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE."

Doubts Are Traitors

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt." ~William Shakespeare

Do your doubts stop you from doing things? Why? What hold over you do those doubts have?

We all fear some things but our doubts shouldn't be one of those things. Heights, snakes, going too fast, these are some things to fear but not our doubts. Why you ask? Because our doubts are just stories that we tell ourselves, not that there is any truth to them, but stories that we believe.

What stories are you telling yourself that are holding you back?

Don't ever not do something because of a fear of failure. Why? Because you will fail your way to success. It's the only way anyone succeeds. They fail their way to success. Think about it. That "overnight sensation" band that has played every scum bag bar in town for 10 years finally makes it big.

Historically, predators from the T-Rex to today have only been successful in 1 out of 10 hunts. Yet they keep trying, why? Because survival dictates that they do. The same goes for me and you.

Don't let your doubts keep you from the good you might do.

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt."
