A Great Question

Will this matter 5 years from now? What a great question to ask about everything that comes into your life! Too often, when we are in the midst of challenges, we think that they will never end. That's just the way our minds work...so ask yourself that question. Will this matter 5 years from now?

You want to change anything in your life? Take responsibility for everything in your life...everything. Sometimes, we take some responsibility but not for everything. The key is taking responsibility for everything. That is the best way to change anything in your life.

Remember, everything you want is outside of your comfort zone (or familiar zone).  Start taking responsibility and you will start feeling comfortable outside of your comfort zone.  That's where and when the magic happens!

Action:
When you find yourself stressed, ask yourself that question, Will this matter 5 years from now? After answering that question, then take responsibility for everything in your life!!

Want The Power? Change Your Beliefs!

Do you believe this? Really? Then why haven't you done the things that you never dreamed possible? What's stopping you from doing it? It is our beliefs that hold us back. What belief do you have that's holding you back? You aren't smart enough? Your too old? You're doing the only thing you know how? What is holding you back?

Dr. Joyce Brothers said "In each of us are places where we have never gone. Only by pressing the limits do you ever find them." Have you pressed your limits? Why not? Fear only exists in your mind, nowhere else. Are you ready to do things you've never dreamed of???

See, most of us live "lives of quiet desperation."  We are stuck and don't really see a way out, so we continue to do what we have always done. And how is that working for us?  NOT AT ALL.  So, what do you have to lose by pressing your limits?  Nothing, except maybe getting un-stuck!

Action:
Analyze your beliefs about yourself. See what those beliefs hold for you. It's never too late to be who you were meant to be. Make it happen!!

Danger vs. Opportunity

Danger/Opportunity. Two side of the same coin. the question is, "Do you concentrate on the danger or the opportunity?" Well, which one rules your mind? Unfortunately, most people allow their fears and the PERCEIVED danger to rule their lives. I hope that's not you, because the opportunity is out there for everyone...not just the "lucky few."

Norman Vincent Peale said that "We tend to get what we expect." Are you expecting danger or opportunity? Really?

Opportunities surround us all the time. The key is to be looking for them and not the danger. When your mind is present where you are, you will start to see opportunities everywhere. Be present. NOW. Challenge your brain to see the opportunities!

Action:
Don't allow fear and danger to rule your mind. Become an opportunian. I just made that word up but it means that your mind is open and looking for opportunities all around you.

Fulfilling Your Potential?

Are you a tight-closed bud, never fulfilling your potential? No? Really?? I find that most people never fulfill their potential. Some are even a tight-closed bud. That to me is really sad, when people are just doing what they are doing and not really knowing why, or when they don't know what they want out of life.

That's the main problem for most people, they don't know what they want out of life. They also don't believe that they could have what they want to have because someone told them that, or they tried once and failed, so they quit trying. Is that you?? I hope not.

Get clear on what you want out of life.  It's only then that it will start to show up for you!  Otherwise you will be that person that they say "they had great potential, but never could find the right recipe." about.

Action:
Realize that right now, today, that "It's never too late to become what you were meant to be." Choose to be who you were meant to be! Now!!

Attitude vs. Circumstance

No matter what the problem, financial situation, history or whatever difficulty is around you --let it be around you. It's a circumstance. It's around you but is not meant to control or determine your attitude. Are you letting it control your attitude?

Our attitude comes from our state of mind, and the state of our heart. Let us keep our mind and our heart focused on gratitude and appreciation. Gratitude is a harmonious vibration with abundance. When you are grateful, you get more things to be grateful about.

All the water in the world can be around us and we can float on top of it, swim in it and play in it. It doesn't have to drown us because we view it only as a circumstance, something that can't control our attitudes...unless we let it.

Action:
Realize that circumstances can't control your attitude or actions. It is a choice that you have as to how to deal with each circumstance. Don't let it negatively affect you.

Your Future Choices Expand

Do you realize that? That you create opportunities for yourself? That you don't wait for your "ship to come in."  Really or do you need to be constantly reminded of that fact?? How are you going about creating opportunities? Are you trying to find them or are you creating them?

Most people think that they have no choices. Hansen says that is the greatest tragedy in your life if you think that way.  Is that you? I hope not. You always have choices...some are good and some are not as good, but you always have choices. "Your future choices expand as you choose to be more, do more and live more." Do you see your choices expanding? If not, then you need to be more, do more and live more. NOW!

Here's the thing; the choices you have made up till now have brought you to where you are now.  If you don't like where you are now, start making new choices, or better choices.  Just remember that it is ALWAYS your choice.

Action:
Realize that you have choices and then choose the one that works best for you. Don't fall into the trap of believing that you don't have any choices!

Dabbling Your Way Through Life

Are you dabbling your way through life? Have you never decided to master anything in life? That's why you aren't achieving as much as you want, because you haven't put the power of focus to work for you. It is said that it takes 5000 hours to become competent at something and 10,000 hours to become a master. How are you coming along towards that 5K?

Most people don't have what they want because they don't know what they want out of life. Do you? Really?? If you do, good for you. If not, decide right now what you want and focus on getting it. Be specific about what you want and why. Your why will always be the strongest partner for you because your why will drive you to get what you want.

As a sales trainer I often ask my students about their experience and how long they have been selling.  After they tell me how many years (or months) they have been selling (let's say they say 10 years) I ask them this question: "Do you have 10 years of experience or 1 year of experience 10 times?"  See most people don't really have all that experience...they just have 1 year or experience over and over again.  If you are not focusing on getting better, you will never master anything.

Action:
Decide what you want. Stop dabbling your way through life and start to master something. You can't get to 10k hours without putting the first hour of work in!

Change and Growth

We often think of change as an event...but it's not. It's a tiny decision made over and over again...until it becomes part of who we are. Think of the last thing that you changed in your business or your life. Examine it closely and you will see that it wasn't an event but a decision that was made over and over again.

To make a positive change requires growth. Gail Sheehy says "Growth demands a temporary surrender of security." Are you willing to make that positive change by temporarily surrendering your security or will you stay safe? Too many people are unwilling or unable to let go of the security to experience positive change and growth. It requires that we get out of our comfort zone and be uncomfortable for a while.

Action:
See if what you are doing today keeps you safe in your comfort zone or if you are challenging that comfort zone and expanding it. Once it is stretched, it will never return to the smaller zone that it was.

Who Have You Decided To Be?

Who have you decided to be? Anyone? No one? Most people don't realize that they have that choice. So, who have you decided to be? When thinking about that, don't just settle for the least you can be. Think big, dream big, create BIG! It's your choice, why not??

“People only see what they are prepared to see.” That being the case, prepare to see BIG things for yourself. No one else will for you, so see BIG things! Prepare your mind to see greatness. Prepare you mind to see things that you have never seen before and create them!!

Action:
Prepare your mind for greatness by seeing your future as great as it can be. It is your choice and no one else can choose for you. So step up and and choose BIG!!

Leave yesterday there, don't bring it with you! Too often we bring along all the baggage from yesterday to today and it steals from your today. Finish each day and be done with it!! Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in, forget them as soon as you can.

"I am not burdened by thoughts of the past or the future.  One is gone (past).  The other (future) is yet to come.  My mind is quiet." (From the Abundance Prayer)  Be present!!

Tomorrow is a new day. Treat it as such. The key to being able to do this is to be present. Be present in every moment. This is a challenge for most people, because they have so many things to do and think about. Our society has sped up so much that it tries to not give us any other choice then speeding up to stay with it. We do have a choice. We don't have to speed up and we can take things at our own pace. That's another part of being present. Choosing to BE present.

Action:
When talking to someone today, give them your whole, undivided attention and remain in the moment. You will be surprised what you hear. The more you hear, the more you know. Be present today!

The Present, Critical, Decisive Hour

Ralph Waldo Emerson week:  Day #4

Are you under the illusions that the present hour is not critical? We have a twisted sense of time and sometimes we really value time and sometimes we just waste our time, causally and without thought.

Do you view every hour as critical? Why not? Tomorrow is promised to no one, so we need to view every hour as critical...to us. How often do you just blow off and hour or two and use the excuse that you needed to veg. I know that I have. The challenge is to continue to be productive!

Now, I understand that sometimes we DO need to veg, to relax and catch our breaths. The key is to not make it a habit. Work all day, come home and plop in front of the tv or your computer and waste your precious time. Stop doing that!!

Action:
Today, when you get to do something, decide if you are investing your time or spending/wasting it. The key is to always be investing your time.

Be Yourself

Are you really yourself? Really? Or are you playing a role that someone else has decided for you? The world around you is constantly trying to make you something other than who you are. The world wants you to conform to it, how do you deal with that?  Or is it just easier to give in and be like everybody else?

What makes you different, or do you try to fit in and NOT stand out? We've always been told to be like everybody else, fit in, don't be different, don't be unique. What a crock! You were created to be unique...Live that uniqueness. Don't back away from it, revel in it.

“Insist on yourself; never imitate. Be original” As much as we like to think of America as a land of individuals, we don't often enough insist on being ourselves. We imitate others, we fit in, we don't rock the boat.

Action:
Today, STAND OUT!! When given an opportunity to be yourself, DO IT! And watch the difference it makes

Do Not Follow

Are you a trailblazer or a follower? Really? Most people are followers. Oh, they will think that they are trailblazers, but they really are followers. Think about the last time you did something that nobody had ever done before...not coming up with much? Don't feel bad, as I said, most people are followers.

Emerson is trying to get us to think and act differently. Different from the status quo. Different from the well-worn path. To create a trail that others can follow. To find a new way to do things. To find a different way to do things.

Don't ask yourself "Can I do it?" Ask yourself "How many ways can I do this, Make A Difference, and enjoy myself along the way? (thanks to @Jeff Herring for the question)

Action:
Start small. When you have a task to do that you do often, think about ways to do it differently. You don't need to blaze the whole trail, just make a start.

Day 5: Dr. Seuss, Thinking

"Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!” Do you ever think about what you're thinking about??? Really? It's called Metacognition and we don't do it often enough. We let negative thoughts just flow through our brains without ever stopping them or re-framing them.

How often do you really think during the day? 5, 6 times? More or less? We think that we think, but most jobs rely on you doing the same thing over and over again without thinking. In fact, 96% of your day is run by your subconscious mind. What do you think about that?? When was the last time you thought about doing your job differently? Ever?? 


Imagine if you could be in your conscious mind just a couple of %s more.  How much would you be able to accomplish?  How far would you be able to go?  What could you do with that?

Action:
Today, when you are confronted by a normal challenge, don't solve it the usual way. Think of a better way to deal with it. Who knows? You might create a new way to do things!

Day 4 Dr. Seuss: I've Brought A Big Bat

"I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!" ~Dr. Seuss

How often do we treat our troubles with a big bat? Not often enough. We don't swat our troubles away, we live in them, wallow in them and stay stuck in them. "Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!" what a great way to face our troubles.

We all have troubles. The problem is not that we have troubles, the problem is thinking that we shouldn't have troubles.  Life is what it is. We get to decide how to respond to troubles or challenges. It is our choice.   Sometimes we have good choices and sometimes the choices are not as good, but we always have a choice.

Action:
Realize that we have a choice to respond. We don't have to stay in the challenge, we can choose to say "Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!"

Day #3 Dr. Seuss: You Are You

Be yourself, everyone else is taken! Too often we think that we have to act the same as everybody else or we need to be like somebody else. WRONG!! We were meant to be ourselves and nobody else. We've been created to be unique, special and one of a kind. To be someone you're not is to waste who you are.

What is the gift that you bring to the world? The gift that no one else can bring to the world. If you don't bring it to the world, no one else will and the world will be robbed of that gift. So, what were you meant to bring to the world?

Action:
Be yourself. In everything you do, be yourself. You will find that life is easier when you don't have to remember who you are but just be who you are. Bring your gift to the world will all your might. It will change someone's life!

It's Dr. Seuss Week! You Choose

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the one who'll decide where you'll go." ~Dr. Seuss

It's always been your choice...even though you were never really told that. As Dr. Seuss says, "You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." When we were younger, parents and teachers steered us in the direction that they thought best for us...but we really didn't choose it ourselves. Are you still on that same path? How's that working for you??

"You know what you know. And you are the one who'll decide where you'll go." You are the one who'll decide where to go. If the path that you've been on isn't working, why not go in the direction that you want? It's your decision. Don't tell me about why you can't...tell me about why you can! No one else is in control of you, only you control you.

Action:
If the path that you are on isn't working for you, look at why it isn't and see if there is another path that you can go down. There's always another choice, another path...you just have to be willing to take that path and make that choice!

Half Way Through 2013

Do you realize this and understand this? Do you think this way?

As we are starting the second half of 2013, see your business at the end of 2013.  'How do you do that?' you ask. Glad you asked. Take the time to envision yourself coming to the end of 2013 and you were able to do everything that you planned to do this year. What would that feel like? Where would you be? What would you be doing to celebrate your successes?

Stay in the moment and write everything that you are feeling and experiencing down as this will become part of the process. How are you different from the first half of the year? How are you the same? What new habits have you developed? What old habits did you drop? Who are you hanging around with? What are you reading?

The more you "begin with the end in mind," the more the physical creation creates it. Start using that incredible super-computer that you have called a brain. You'll be shocked at what it can do for you.

The Declaration of Independence

IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776
The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.


Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. Facts be submitted to a candid world.


He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.


He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.


He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.


He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.


He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.


He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.


He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.


He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.


He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.


He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.


He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.


He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.


He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:


For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:


For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:


For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:


For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:


For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:


For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:


For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies


For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:


For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.


He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.


He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.


He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.


He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.


He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.


In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

A Single Idea

What is your most resilient parasite? What idea can you just not get away from? What idea dominates your thinking? And what have you done about it? Nothing? Why???

Nothing has ever been created without first a thought. That is where everything starts. What thoughts are you letting dominate your thinking? Thoughts of lack? Thoughts of fear? Thoughts of negativity? Or thoughts of abundance, thoughts of action and thoughts of positivity?

See, we get to decide what we think about. No one else can make us think about anything unless we allow it in. Have a negative friend? Don't hang with them! Have a family member that's always talking you down? Distance yourself. It's you choice as to who to hang with...choose wisely!

Action:
Today, choose wisely what to let into your thinking. What resilient parasite you want crawling around your brain. It is, after all, your choice!

Simple, But Not Easy

How do you deal with change? Change is not easy, but it is simple. I love that. We make things much more complex than they have to be and this boils it all down.  Things might not be easy, but they are simple.  If "an apple a day kept the doctor away" would you do it?  It's simple...but it's not easy...and you can;t eat 7 apples on Saturday to make up for it.


Do you realize that we have a choice in how we react to change? We do, but you need to recognize it. In fact, our lives are all about choices. You are today where your choices have brought you and you will be tomorrow where the choices of today take you. And don't give me any flack about not having any choices. You always have a choice, not always good ones, but you always have choices.


So. Do you manage change or does it manage you and your time???

Action:Realize that you always have choices. The next time your brain says I don't have any choice, think again and look for the alternatives.

Encouragement or Correction?

We are constantly being corrected but how often are we encouraged? I'd say that it's at least 10 to 1, correction over encouragement. What do you think?

Today's post is to ENCOURAGE you to become all that you were meant to be. That means playing big, not shrinking back and hiding in the crowd! Don't let your lizard brain scare you away from being who you were meant to be!! Your lizard brain will tell you that it is too dangerous, that people will not like you, that you can't become who you were meant to become. DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR LIZARD BRAIN!!! The lizard brain is why I say that your brain is not your friend.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is one of my mentors said "Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be." If that is you, take this message as your wake up call to be inspired to be all that you were created to be!

Action:
Take today to encourage someone you don't know and maybe even some people that you do know and see what a difference it makes in their life.
