Danger And Opportunity Are Inseperable

Limiting Past Or Limitless Potential?

"I can change. I can live out my imagination instead of my memory. I can tie myself to my limitless potential instead of my limiting past."~Stephen Covey

Are you living out of your imagination or out of your memory?  Most people are simply living out of their memory and because of that, they never get to where they really want to go.  Is that you? Are you stuck reliving the same old stuff, day after day, almost like that movie "Groundhog Day?"  If so, do what Bill Murray did in the movie.  He took the opportunity to learn new things, to grow and become more than he was and get what he wanted to get.  Your life isn't so different.

The challenge we face is described here by Wallace Wattles when he says, "You can never get rich, or start the creative power into action, by sending out unformed longings and vague desires."  Most people want to be "happy" or "rich" or "have a nice house."  All things that are unformed longings and vague desires.  GET SPECIFIC with what you want!

Don't spend any time thinking about what you DON'T WANT.  Why?  Because that just attracts more of what you don't want!  You have to train your brain to focus on all the good things that you have and not on what you lack.  Focusing on your abundance, even if it's a small amount of abundance will bring you more abundance!  Your brain wants you to focus on all the things you don't have.  Work on making that brain of yours work for you, instead of against you!

I Already Know That!

"It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning."~Claude Bernard

I hear people all the time that say "I already know that." Those are the worst words ever put together if you are interested in growing and learning. What happens in your brain is that when you say that or even think that, learning stops. Your brain actually limits learning from taking place because of your thoughts. That is the worst thing that can happen to anyone, they stop learning.

What have you learned this week? Anything? Most people stop learning as soon as they get out of school. Sure, they learn how to do a job, but once in that job, learning stops. If you are interested in growing your business, spend 30 minutes a day learning more about your industry, who you sell to, why they buy from you and what makes you different from all the other people that do the same thing you do.  Learn how to market to them.  If you will do this for 30 minutes a day within 6 months, you will double your business!  It will also show that you are committed to growing your business and not just interested in it.

Keep learning new things. Keep stretching your horizons and getting out of your comfort zone. It is there that real growth and learning takes place. Join us at the "Your Prospects Aren't Paying Attention To You" workshop.  You'll learn how to get your prospects to pay attention to you.  There are still a few seats left (for you procrastinators)

YOU Control Your Destiny!

"Understanding that we control our own destiny is the key to our success in life. Simply put, when we decide how we want our life to be we must take responsibility and move forward." ~Mac Anderson

Do you realize that? YOU control your own destiny! It's not controlled by the economy, your boss, your spouse, your parents...YOU control your own destiny!! The challenge is knowing what you want it to look like and being specific! Most people really don't know what they want. They want to be "rich." To be "happy." What do those things mean?? Nothing to your brain. You need to be specific in knowing what you want and why you want it.

Why do you want to be "rich?" And what does "rich" mean to you? Put a number on that. Say, "I want to make $750k a year!" Your mind can get around that. Now, why do you want to make $750k a year? The whys will be your driving force when you slow down or are depressed or not feeling excited about what you are doing.

"Simply put, when we decide how we want our life to be we must take responsibility and move forward."   Are you ready to take responsibility and move forward?  Most people will say that they are however when it comes down to it, they really aren't ready yet.  That's sad!

It's About Belief!

“When you believe something is impossible, your mind goes to work for you to prove why. But when you believe, really believe, something can be done, your mind goes to work for you and helps you find the ways to do it.” ~David J. Schwartz

Our brain is the greatest computer ever designed. It is a million times more powerful that the most powerful computer and when you believe something, you mind will bring the things to you that validate your thinking. Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can or think you can't you're right." If you believe something is impossible, then guess what...IT IS impossible...FOR YOU. But it is not impossible for someone who believes is it possible.

Here's another view on possible and impossible “If it is possible, it is done; if impossible, it shall be done.”~Charles Alexandre de Calonne Wow, is that powerful? If it is impossible, IT SHALL BE DONE. Do you think this way? Can you think this way? Break out of your self-imposed mediocrity and attempt the impossible.

And don't let the realists stop you, you know who they are, the ones who are always saying, "Oh, be realistic." See, a realist is really a pessimist in disguise. Go for it. Attempt the impossible and when they come to ask you how you did it, just say "It's a secret...but it has something to do with belief..."

Don't be Trapped By Dogma

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone elses life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Are you letting the noise of others opinions drown out your inner voice? That inner voice is your intuition and some say it is devinely inspired. Don't let anyone's noise affect your intuition. Don't let your brain drown out the inner voice, because it will try to.

Do you have the courage to follow your heart and intuition? The only thing that can stop us is our fears, real or imagined. Are you following your heart or are you just along for the ride, the ride that started out a long time ago and you have never challenged yourself to change your direction.

When you have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, then everything else is secondary. Go for it. Just do it. Be who you were meant to be!!

Did You Begin 2014 With "This End" In Mind?

“Begin with the end in mind’ is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There’s a mental or first creation and a physical or second creation to all things.” ~Stephen Covey

Do you realize this and understand this? Do you think this way?

As we are coming to the end of this year and we are looking forward to next year, start out 2015 by beginning with the end in mind. 'How do you do that,' you ask. Glad you asked. Take the time to envision yourself coming to the end of 2015 and you were able to do everything that you planned to do this year. What would that feel like? Where would you be? What would you be doing to celebrate your successes?

Stay in the moment and write everything that you are feeling and experiencing down as this will become part of the process. How are you different from last year? How are you the same? What new habits have you developed? What old habits did you drop? Who are you hanging around with? What are you reading?

The more you "begin with the end in mind," the more the physical creation creates it. Start using that incredible super-computer that you have called a brain. You'll be shocked at what it can do for you.

Another way to get to the end that you are looking for is to do the "Reflect Back & Plan Forward" worksheet.  I'll be glad to send you one if you email me at david@mentoringyoursuccess.com or text me your email address at 602-577-2624.

Are Your Thoughts Your Thoughts?

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”~ Oscar Wilde

Are you you? Or are you what someone else wanted you to be? Maybe your parents, teachers, peers? Did you do stuff to please other people or did you do stuff that you wanted to do? Who are you? Think about it for a while and then try to decide if you are being authentic or you're being what others want you to be.

Are your thoughts someone else's opinions or are they yours? Have you washed other people's opinion through your brain and come up with what you believe or are you just living a mimicry? You can believe what other's tell you, but be sure to run it through your own analyzer (brain) and make sure that you can say, "yes, I believe that too." Because you thought about it, not because someone else said it.

Quotations are a passion of mine, but my passion isn't a quotation. There's a mind-bender...figure it out yet? Is your passion just a quotation or is it real, vivid, alive, driving you forward?

Like we talked about yesterday, passion is the wind that drives your sail and nothing great was ever done without passion.
One way to find you passion is to fill out the "Reflect Back and Plan Forward" worksheet. If you would like one, send an email to david@mentoringyoursuccess.com or text your email to 602-577-2624 and I will send it to you.

Another Success Killer, Focusing On The Problem

"Perceptual blindness sheds much light on why we miss obvious solutions. By focusing on one thing (a problem), we miss something else (a solution)."~Michael McMillan

Another success killer is focusing on the problem rather than the solution. It is a learned behavior to focus on the solution, because our brain just wants to focus on the problem. Yes, you need to look at the problem, but only long enough to start to come up with solutions to that problem. Once you have a few solutions to work on, focus on the solutions!

What we focus on expands and unless we work on metacognition (thinking about what we think about) our focus will not be strong enough to stay on the solutions...our minds will drift back to the problem.  That's just the way our brains are wired.  What are you focusing on?  The problem or the possible solutions?  If you are focusing on the problem, I can imagine that you see the problem getting bigger...however if you focus on solutions, the problem will work itself out.

Action:
A good thing to work on is when you bring problems up at your work, at home or wherever, in addition to talking about the problem. bring a solution to the discussion. By bringing a solution to the problem, it allows the mind to search for other solutions instead of going back to the problem. Work on that this week.

Thinking About What You Think About

"If we are not responsible for the thoughts that pass our doors, we are at least responsible for those we admit and entertain." ~Charles Newcomb

What thoughts are you admitting and entertaining? Have you ever thought about what you are thinking about? It's called Metacognition and more people don't ever do it.  Start now, because if you don't, you will never understand why you can't seem to get what you want.

It's true that there are thoughts that just pop into our brain but the key is to maintain your "brain garden" free from those negative thoughts and bad weeds. Once they enter your thought pattern make sure that you weed them out so they can't plant in your brain.

What are you doing about what you aren't doing? Anything? Are you learning something new? Are you being coached or mentored by someone? Or are you doing nothing about what you aren't doing???

Keep weeding your "brain garden" minute by minute. It might be a hassle to start but you will benefit from it immediately. Start doing something about what you aren't doing.

Thoughts We Wish To Dominate Our Lives

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."~Henry David Thoreau

What kind of deep mental paths are you creating? Are you allowing them to dominate your life? Research has found that we have about 60 thousand thoughts per day...and 85% of those thoughts are NEGATIVE! They also found that out of those 60k thoughts, 80% were the same thoughts that you had yesterday!

Too many people spend all their mental energy thinking about what they don't want instead of thinking about what they do want. Is that you?  If it is, STOP NOW!  Start thinking about what you DO want, not what you DON"T want.

Peace Pilgrim said "If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought." Wow, NEVER think another negative thought! It's interesting that to develop your mind with positive thoughts it takes work and work, while our brain goes to the negative so much easier. Think about the last time you had a "What if" thought. Was it positive or negative? Most people's "what ifs' are always negative. What if you could make them positive?

Challenge yourself to think NEW thoughts every day. Don't get caught in the never-ending loop of old, negative thoughts. Make your "what ifs" positive. It really can be that easy.
