How Did This Happen?

“People talk about the reality of their life as if it is important. And we want you to understand, it’s only the temporary indicator. Do you go to the gas station-your gas gauge is on empty-do you go to the gas station and look at your gas gauge in horror? “How did this happen? [Fun] Why, why, why did this happen to me?” Do you lay your head on the steering wheel and just sob? “Oh, look what it’s come to. [Fun] I’m finished. I’ve lived all of this life, and look where I am.” Or do you just fill up.”~ Esther & Jerry Hicks

The reality of your life is only temporary. Do you understand that? Really? Some people just don't get that at any time they can change and become what they want to be. They can change where they are at, what they are doing and who they are doing it with...You have the power to change, RIGHT NOW!

The Hicks's point this out in a funny way. What do you do when your gas tank is running low??? You go to the gas station. Well, when you are running low, where do you go? Do you have "mates" that you can talk to? Do you go to God or a higher power? Or do you go to the local bar and "drown your sorrows" there? We all go somewhere...so where do you go?

You need to surround yourself with people who care about you. Who have your best interests at heart and are willing to go to bat for you and help you when you need it. That's what friendship is all about. That's what community is all about.

Who are you that person for? Anyone? If not, start thinking who you can help, who you can be that person for. We have become so technological that we have forgotten the human aspect of our lives...

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

Listen

"One friend, one person who is truly understanding, who takes the trouble to listen to us as we consider a problem, can change our whole outlook on the world." ~ Dr. E. H. Mayo

Who are you "that friend" to? Anyone? I sure hope that you are, at least to one person. It can change their whole outlook. It should be something that we strive for in all our relationships...to give them the time and respect that they deserve.

You can change your outlook in a flash. You can change someone elses outlook with a little time and a little listening. "It is never too late to become who you were meant to be." The same holds true for your friends...help them see that and show them the way. They will be forever grateful to you. I have friends like that, I'm sure that you do to.

How well do you listen? Really? I sometimes wonder if anyone is listening at all, with all the shouting and yelling about every thing that we disagree on. Robert Frost said "You are educated when you have the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or self-confidence."

Think about that the next time you are having a discussion...

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

Are YouThankful For Your Friends?

“I awoke this morning with a devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.”~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Are you really thankful for your friends? Both new and old? Really? In our whiz-bang, technologically happy society, its really easy to send an email or a text and think that we are making a difference in the world...Why not just pick up the phone and talk to someone?

Think about how our society has progressed. In the early years, if you had never met someone, it wouldn't be until you did that you could create a relationship...The the telegraph came and then the telephone. You could talk to people and never have to meet them...Now we have Facebook and Twitter and we can have all kinds of "Friends" that we have never met!!

I'd like to add to Emerson's quote..."the old and the new and those soon to be." Our society is going back to where we were a fifty years ago, where relationships MATTERED! We kind of got away from that, but we realize now that "it's not what you know, but who you know and even more importantly, who knows you!

“I awoke this morning with a devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.”

Quality of Your Relationships

"The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships."~Anthony Robbins

Think about the quality of your relationships...Do you have many deep relationships or are they mostly "drive-by" relationships, really acquaintances. What are you giving to create these relationships? Anything, something, just enough to get out of it what you want? In our current "microwave"society, we don't really bother to develop deep relationships any more...and that's to our detriment.

How can you increase the quality of your relationships? Can you? Do you think that you can? Friendship is the connection between people based upon trust and mutual affection.

The key to quality relationships is that you take an active commitment to each relationship. It requires effort, not just the normal "How are you" question, but asking it and really wanting to know the answer. Really caring. We all have experienced it when someone asks how we are and really doesn't care when we start to tell them...That is not an active commitment, that's just shallow.

How many of your relationships are like that, shallow?

"The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships."
