Success: Simple, Not Easy

"Decide what you want. Decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work."~H.L. Hunt

Right there are the 4 steps to success.  It's really simple.  1) Decide what you want. 2) Decide what you are willing to exchange for it. 3) Establish your priorities and 4) Go to work.  SEE??  Real simple...however it isn't easy!

The first thing that makes it difficult is that most people don't know what they want.  Let me repeat that, MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT!  "I know what I want" you say, "I want to be rich, I want to have a cool car, I want to be skinnier."  What does rich mean?  What's a cool car?  Skinnier than what?  We think we know what we want however without specificity, it means nothing!  Be specific in what you want.  I want to have a million dollars in the bank in 3 years.  I want a BMW X5 by summer.  I want to lose 25 pounds by the end of the year.  Specificity!!!

The second reason that it's difficult is that we aren't willing to make the exchange for what we really want.  We settle for what we have now and will not let go even for something better! We know what we need to exchange to get what we want...we just won't make that exchange.

The third reason that it's difficult is that we never establish our priorities.  We say that we don't have enough time, well, time management is not about time management.  We all get the same amount of time.  It's more about priority management.  It's difficult to manage our priorities if we have never established them in the first place!

And the fourth reason that it's difficult is that YOU HAVE TO GO TO WORK!!  I hate to say it, most people only work at a 50% level, leaving 50% on the table and calling that the best they can do!  What would happen to your business or job if you were able to give 20% more, just up to 70%?

See, the 4 steps are really simple, they are just not easy!

Don't Allow Anyone To Push You Back

"Life moves forward not backwards. It cannot move back and you cannot go back. It is like time. It is time. Do not let words or judgments that people put on you stop you from moving forward. You have no time to waste to allow anyone to push you back. You must move forward to keep up with who you are and what you want in life."

Are you moving forward or are you moving backwards? Life always moves forward, but sometimes we get stuck and don't move forward or even go backwards, but all the while, life continues to move forward!  We continue to get further and further behind.

Too often, we allow other people's words and judgments push us backwards. One of my favorite quotes says, "It is none of my business what you think of me." Don't allow other people's judgments of you and your work push you back. If you allow their judgments to change who you are, you stop being authentic.  Stay who you are, not what someone else wants you to be!

The best way to keep moving forward is to stay PRESENT.  Stay in the moment and you will keep moving forward. Life is about being in the present, not the past or the future.  Everything happens in the present!  Remember that.

You must move forward to keep up with who you are and what you want in life. Keep moving forward, keep being who you are and keep going for what you want out of life. Do it now!!

Time, Valuable And Perishable

"Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of all our possessions." ~John Randolph

How often do we think about time that way? Not often enough! Our most valuable yet perishable of all our possessions. We need to remember that tomorrow is promised to no one. NO ONE! So make each minute count.

"In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking."~ Sir John Lubbock

Here's the truth about time. You will make the time for the things you choose to do. So the next time someone asks you to do something, don't say, "I'm too busy." Be honest. Tell them that what they want you to do isn't important enough for you to do it. They may thank you for it or they may hate you for telling them the truth, but you will feel a lot better.

Here's another thing about time...You will never FIND more time. You need to MAKE more time. This comes down to priorities. Make sure that you are always doing the most productive thing at any given moment.

Remember, tomorrow is promised to no one!  No One!  So, work to remain PRESENT today!

Don't be Trapped By Dogma

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone elses life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~Steve Jobs

Are you living someone elses life? Are you living with the results of other people's thinking? WHY? You only get one shot at this life, live it the way you want to, not the way others want you to live it.

Are you letting the noise of others opinions drown out your inner voice? That inner voice is your intuition and some say it is devinely inspired. Don't let anyone's noise affect your intuition. Don't let your brain drown out the inner voice, because it will try to.

Do you have the courage to follow your heart and intuition? The only thing that can stop us is our fears, real or imagined. Are you following your heart or are you just along for the ride, the ride that started out a long time ago and you have never challenged yourself to change your direction.

When you have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, then everything else is secondary. Go for it. Just do it. Be who you were meant to be!!

Personal Development Precedes Business Development

“If you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” ~Mr. Shoaf (Jim Rohn’s mentor)

Are you working harder on yourself than your job? Really? How are you doing that?

We all try to work hard at our jobs, but how much time do we really spend working on improving OURSELVES? Sure you might go to the gym, run, exercise and eat right, but how much time are you spending on improving YOUR MIND? Are you learning new words to expand your vocabulary? Are you learning new and better ways to make decisions? Are you learning new things? Maybe a new language, studying about history of The United States, not the history you were taught in government schools...

Personal Development precedes Business Development, so if you are struggling in your business, or just stuck, get back to working on yourself!  You cannot improve your business without first improving you.

Every little bit of time we work on improving ourselves gets paid back with compounded interest, so spend a little time working on YOU. And then, start spending more time working on YOU. You will be surprised and happy about the results...

And if you want to work harder on your job,
fill out the "Reflect Back and Plan Forward" worksheet. If you would like one, send an email to david@mentoringyoursuccess.com or text your email address to 602-577-2624 and I will send it to you.

The Time Will Never Be "Just Right"

"Do not wait; the time will never be 'just right.' Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along." ~Napoleon Hill

Are you waiting? If you are, what are you waiting for? Why? "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life! But there was always some obstacle, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business." Are you dealing with the obstacles and not allowing life to begin? It's real easy for us to do and we get caught up in dealing with things that before you know it, another year has passed.

Start now with whatever you have. Stop waiting for whatever you think you need and just do it. NOW! As Goethe said there is boldness in beginning!

Be bold and begin attending workshops and seminars.  Other people know things you don't and if you are open to learning (which most people say they are, but really aren't) you can learn from anyone.  Even me!
You can also join us
Thursday December 18th at the workshop "Goal Getting & Goal Setting; Create Your Success Plan For 2015."  You will learn how to Create Your Success and stop your limitations.

The Illusion Of Life

“One of the illusions of life is that the present hour is not the critical, decisive hour. Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. No man has learned anything rightly, until he knows that every day is Doomsday.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Are you under the illusions that the present hour is not critical? We have a twisted sense of time and sometimes we really value time and sometimes we just waste our time, causally and without thought.  Be present!!

Do you view every hour as critical? Why not? Tomorrow is promised to no one, so we need to view every hour as critical...to us. How often do you just blow off an hour or two and use the excuse that you needed to veg. I know that I have. The challenge is to continue to be productive!

Now, I understand that sometimes we DO need to veg, to relax and catch our breaths. The key is to not make it a habit. Work all day, come home and plop in front of the tv or your computer and waste your precious time. Stop doing that!!
:
Today, when you get to do something, decide if you are investing your time or spending/wasting it. The key is to always be investing your time.

Giving and Getting

"If you are not GETTING what you want out of life, maybe you're not GIVING enough to it."

What do you think? Are you giving enough to get what you want out of life? What are you willing to pay to get what you want? Money, time, extra effort? Before you can get what you want, you need to determine what you are willing to pay to get it. Some people decide that they don't want to pay the price to get what they want and they settle for what they can get. I hope that's not you!

Think about your business. Are you giving it enough to get what you want? Or are you only giving enough to make ends meet, keep the boss happy, pay the bills? Think about it. Maybe you aren't giving it what you need to give it to be really successful. Here's the thing about this. You don't have to answer the question...your results have already answered the question for you! You will have results or you will have excuses.

If you don't make a change, nothing will change for you.  You just can't wish a change to happen, you have to take action steps to MAKE it happen.  Are you ready to make a change or are you happy with the results that you are getting now?

Ralph Waldo Emerson said "The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common." Take a look at what you are giving. See the miraculous, and if you don't see the miraculous, look again until you see it. And if you don't see it then, maybe you aren't giving it enough...

Valuable and Perishable

"Think highly enough of yourself to make wise and effective use of this day. Remember that every moment you fill is your own, precious, irreplaceable time."~Ralph Marston

Are you making wise and effective use of your time? Today? If not, then you don't think highly enough about yourself. You get to choose. Taking action or procrastination. Making wise and effective use of the day or wasting the day.

Every moment is yours to fill. It's your choice what to do with it. No one else can make you do anything that you don't want to. It comes back to your choice of thinking highly enough about yourself or not. Do you think highly enough about yourself or are you allowing others to dictate your time? Don't let them, it's your choice.

John Randolph said "Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of all our possessions." How true that is. Think about that. We own 24 hours a day. Are you spending it or wasting it? Think about how easy it is to blow 15 minutes every couple of hours. It could add up to 3 or 4 hours a day that we fritter away and lose forever. Do you value time as your most valuable possession? Most people don't.

Action:
Start making wise and effective use of your time...TODAY!! It's your choice to use your time in the way you see as best. Make sure that you are choosing well. Start treating time as your greatest possession!

Are you moving forward or are you moving backwards? Life always moves forward, but sometimes we get stuck.  Here's the thing, if you are not moving forward you are moving backward but all the while, life continues to move forward!

Too often, we allow other people's words and judgments push us backwards. One of my favorite quotes says, "It is none of my business what you think of me." Are you living someone elses life? Are you living with the results of other people's thinking? WHY? You only get one shot at this life, live it the way you want to, not the way others want you to live it.  Too often well meaning people try to guide us into things THEY think we need.  That leads you right into living with the results of other people's thinking.

Are you letting the noise of others opinions drown out your inner voice? That inner voice is your intuition and some say it is devinely inspired.  I call my inner voice Ziggy (for the cartoon and Sigmund Freud).  We have wonderful discussions and then I tell Ziggy, "Thanks for sharing, CANCEL!"  Don't let anyone's noise affect your intuition.

You Can't Make More Time

"Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff that life is made of." ~Benjamin Franklin

Do you love life? Do you squander time? Why? We all do it. We get so busy doing inconsequential things that the important things get pushed aside. In our over communicated, over saturated, overstimulated, over busy society, our attention is taken away from what is important and we chase after the latest, shiniest new thing that comes our way. SQUIRREL!!!! We squander our most valuable asset, our time.  Time is more important than money.  You can always make more money...you can't make more time!

Zig Ziglar says that "Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four-hour days."  Not having enough time is a priority issue, not a time issue. We have plenty of time to do the things we want to do, just not enough time to do the things that we may have to do, but don't want to do.

The next time that you are asked to do something that you don't want to do, be honest and say "I'm sorry, but that isn't of enough value to me to do at this time" instead of just saying, "I don't have time." If it is of enough value to you, you will find a way of making the time so that you can do it.

Start giving your time the value it deserves, investing it and not squandering it and you will become even more valuable to others and yourself.

The week between Christmas and New Years can be the most productive week of the year!  Why?  Because fewer people are working...which means less email, phone calls and interuptions.  Also because the people that are working are usually coasting...nuff said there.  This can be a week of "Reflecting Back and Planning Forward."  Look at what you did well in 2012 and look at what you didn't do well in 2012.  (If you are interested, I can send you a worksheet to do this.)

So, how will you use the most productive week of the year??

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!
