Make It Happen, Let It Happen, Wonder What Happened

"When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened." ~John M. Richardson Jr.

Which one are you??? I know, you are one of those who make it happen, right? But really, do you make it happen or do you just say that you do? It's real easy to say, but much harder to do and when things get hard, we tend to not do them. Because it's too hard or will take too long or we are not committed to doing it, so we don't. Then we just let life happen to us.

Are you interested or are you committed?  See, because if your just interested, you will do things when they are easy or you can do them quickly.  If you are only interested when things get hard, you will quit.  If you are committed, you will do whatever it takes.  No excuses. Period!!

It's an interesting thing about the future...you can create it!  Especially when it comes to your business.  Do you want to be one of those who wondered what happened to their business or would you rather (make it happen) create a stable business.  If that's you, join us Thursday at the "Your Prospects Aren't Paying Attention To You" workshop.  You'll learn how to MAKE IT HAPPEN, not just let it happen!

Planning, Preparation, Practice And Performance

"How you run the race-your planning, preparation, practice, and performance-counts for everything. Winning or losing is a byproduct, and aftereffect of that effort." ~John Wooden

How are you running the race? How is your planning, practice and performance? Do you plan daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or do you just do what you've always done and get by doing that? Are you practicing your performance? Really? When was the last time you practiced your sales presentation? When?

See, winning takes place in the preparation, not in the presentation. All those years that Wooden coached UCLA, he never spoke about winning and losing, only about maximizing his players abilities. His success proves that the winning is in the preparation.

Winning or losing is a byproduct, and aftereffect of that effort. Do you realize that? Most people don't see it that way. It's your preparation that allows you to win or causes you to lose.  Are you spending enough time preparing or are you just winging it?

So I will ask again, how is your preparation? Stop worrying about making the sale and prepare like a champion for the presentation and you will win as often as Wooden did.  (for those of you too young to remember Coach Wooden, he won 10 NCAA Men's Basketball Championships in 12 years)

A great way to prepare is to join us next Thursday at the "Your Prospects Aren't Paying Attention To You" workshop.  You will learn the 7 steps to gaining and maintaining your prospects attention and always be prepared!

Do You Know Where You Are Going?

"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there."~Lewis Carroll

Do you have a plan for where you are going? Really? A WRITTEN plan? One that contains everything you want to do in minute detail?  One that you look at every day? Really? If so, good for you, if not, then start today! Right now!! It's never too late to be who you might have been!

An old saying goes like this: "If you fail to plan, you are planing to fail." How many times have you heard that one? Well then, why is it that most people plan their vacation in more detail than their life? Such a sad commentary on our society, when we are too busy to even plan our own future (other than those 2 weeks of vacation) In fact, statistics tell us that less than 5% of people have a written plan for their life. Are you in that 5%?

Action:
If you have your plan written out, read it every day. Make sure that every detail of what you want is included in it.  If you don't, start right now. Spend an hour thinking about the life you want and how to create that life. If you need some help, let me know and I will be glad to get you started on your way to the life you want.

Escape Is Easier Than Change

"I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they do their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.”~Jim Rohn

How true is that statement? If you don't have a plan for your life, someone else will, and guess what? They really don't care much about you!!

Most people spend more time planning their vacations than planning their work and personal life. Jim also said "You should never start your day until you've finished it on paper." I'm sure that he would allow for IPhones or mobile tech stuff as well. But the question is, 'How often to you start your day with no idea of what is in store for you?

I started planning my day the night before a long time ago and it's amazing how during sleep, answers and thoughts leading to issues that were to be faced that day would come to me. I don't know how it works, I just know that it works.

If you haven't started planning your days, what are you waiting for? Permission? I GIVE YOU PERMISSION! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Are You Wondering What Happened?

"When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened." ~John M. Richardson Jr.

It's real easy to say, but much harder to do and when things get hard, we tend to not do them. Because it's too hard or will take too long or we are not committed to doing it, so we don't. Then we just let life happen to us.

Here's the thing about letting things happen to you. If you don't have a plan, you will have to be a part of someone elses plan. And guess what, their plan doesn't have much for you. I hope that you aren't one of the ones who just wondered what happened. Everything happens for a reason.

I talk to a lot of business owners who say that they are committed to growing their business, committed to creating the business of their dreams.  The problem?  Most business owner are only interested, they are not committed.  What's the difference?  Interested business owners will do things when they are convenient however committed business owners will do things NO MATTER WHAT!!

Go about today and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN! Don't go through this day just letting it happen to you. Create the life that you've always wanted.

Think Long Term

"Do not measure success by today's harvest. Measure success by the seeds you plant today."~Robert Louis Stevenson

Are you measuring your success by today's harvest? Why? Is it that need for instant gratification? Our society has become one that seems to nee instant gratification.  The "Microwave Society" I like to call it.  What is driving that measurement of today? Stevenson says to measure your success by the seeds that you plant today. There used to be something called delayed gratification...and it was even better than instant gratification.

Are you planting seeds for tomorrow, or are you only concerned with today? That's another challenge for our microwave society. We don't even want to think long-term, only how can I get it now??

Only 3% of you will plan you 2014.  Why?  The old saying is that if "you fail to plan, you are planning to fail."  Most people will just keep on doing what they are doing because "they've always done it that way."  How stupid is that?  How long would it take to you plan?  Too long?  No, 10 minutes spent planning saves you 2 hours down the road.  Imagine what you could do if you planned out your whole year??  Most people will spend more time planning their 2 week vacation than will spend planning their life...how sad is that?!?

It's been said that we can learn from watching nature. Well, in nature, there is always a gestation period, for plants, trees, animals and even humans. Live in the present but Stop living for the right now. Start planning for the future. "I am planning for the future," you say. Really, I ask? Really??

Plan, Prepare, Expect

"You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win."~Zig Ziglar

YOU WERE BORN TO WIN!!! Do you realize that? Really? Most people just accept what they get without any thought of winning, just happy to be alive...Oh, they wish that they would win and sometimes they even win...but they don't have a winner's mindset. See, there are 3 things that you have to do to create a winner's mindset. 1. Plan 2. Prepare 3. Expect.

Sometimes we plan but most of the time we don't plan, or plan to win, because it takes some work to plan. It's said that "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Cute wording but oh so true!! Yet there we are, just going about our day without planning, and reacting to everything that comes our way. Make a plan. Plan your work and then work your plan.

Be Prepared. The Boy Scout motto that we learned as kids...but do we continue it in our daily work? No, for the most part, we just kind of wing it, don't we. What is it that you are preparing for? Anything? Your next appointment? A new sales call? NO, after a few times, we think that we can just do it without preparation. Preparation creates confidence...and confidence is what makes good things happen for you.

Expectations. I train sales people and always, without a doubt, when I ask them if they expected to make the sale, they reply no. Why is that? They have never been taught that expectations create your reality. In fact, when they don't make the sale, the first thing they say is "I knew it." Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy!!! They knew they couldn't make the sale, but didn't think that they could make the sale...How screwed up is that?

Are You Being Less

"If you deliberately plan on being less than you are capable of being, then I must warn you that you'll be unhappy for the rest of your life."~Abraham Maslow

Are you planning on only accepting a little of life? Why? We were made for abundance. I don't think that most people plan on being less than they can be, but have the desire to be all they can be driven out of them. By well-meaning teachers, parents and friends...

How can you reclaim the feeling of becoming capable of doing anything? Confidence, belief in yourself and knowledge that there are no accidents or coincidences. There's a reason that you are where you are right now. It could be to help someone else out, it could be because you have something to learn, but there is a reason why we are all where we are.

The Number Of Times I Succeed

“I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of times I succeed; and the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep on trying."~Tom Hopkins

I am judged by the number of times I succeed, yes I am judged by the number of times I succeed, not the number of times I have failed. It's so difficult to let the failure go but that's what needs to happen to succeed again. We hold on to our failures much too tightly and much too long. Why do we do that?  We do that because our brains default to the negative!

“Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them – every day begin the task anew.” St. Francis de Sales

Set about remedying those imperfections and every day, begin the task anew. Work on those imperfections a little every day and soon they will be gone. Too often we allow those imperfections to stay with us without us working on them. Sometimes we don't work on them because other people might see them and we couldn't have that or sometimes we get some kind of benefit from the imperfection...

Benjamin Franklin had 12 vices that he wrote about and wanted to work on.  He took each vice and worked on one for a month, until he was able to change it.

"And the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep on trying." Well, plan to keep on trying.

Your Personal Philosophy

“Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out. Don't borrow someone else's plan. Develop your own philosophy and it will lead you to unique places.” ~Jim Rohn

Do you have a "Personal Philosophy" or Mission Statement for your life? Why not? According to Rohn, your personal philosophy is the determining factor in how your life turns out. Might make sense to have one...don't you think?? Do you think it might help you top have one? I do.

Make it YOUR Personal Philosophy. Don't let it be your parents, boss, teacher or who ever might want you to share or take theirs. This is YOUR Personal Philosophy and will take you to places that you have never been or even imagined.  But only if it's YOUR Personal Philosophy and not someone else's.  Take the time to imagine and then create it!  Do it Now!!

Yesterday we spoke about how Beliefs = Behaviors = Results. These all flow from your Personal Philosophy. Your Personal Philosophy needs to be in alignment with your Beliefs and Values.

Take some time right now to create your Personal Philosophy. Here's a link to help you with creating it.

Past vs. Present

"You can't change anything in the rear view mirror. You have to look through the front windshield." ~General Colin Powell

I had the opportunity to hear General Colin Powell speak at the "Get Motivated" seminar (along with 20k of my closest friends) as well as other great speakers. He said this during his speech and it really hit home for me. I know a lot of people who are having this challenge of not living in the present and going back to the past that's keeping them stuck. Why do you think this is?

I'd say that it's fear of the unknown (the future) vs. the pain of what they already know (the past). This is keeping many people from getting what they want, because they can't get out of the trap they are caught in. It happens to all of us and the best way to deal with it is to focus on the present, even if it is only 1 day at a time, or even the next hour instead of reliving the past.

Too often we start to focus on the present and something pops into our head and we are back again in the past.  The key is to be aware of what has happened and when you notice it, change it back to the present.

A lot of people will say to me, "Oh yea, I left the past in the past." However, when challenges come up, they fall back into the state that kept them stuck in the past, so have they really left the past in the past? Don't think so...but you can. How you ask?  Stop thinking, breathe and know that nothing in the past can get you to where you want to go.

Focusing on the present allows you to plan for the future. Focusing on the present allows you to eliminate the past from the discussion. Focusing on the present allows you to be ready for everything that comes to you! Focusing on the present allows you to be prepared.

Take today and focus on today! Focus on the present.
What do you think?

Choice, Not Chance

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved."~W.J. Bryant

Are you waiting for destiny to happen to you? A lot of people are and guess what? For them, it will never come!! What are you waiting for?  Why are you waiting to create your life?  It's not a matter of waiting until your "ship comes in," you have to swim out to meet it!

It is a matter of choice, not a matter of chance.

Most people meticulously plan their 2 weeks of vacation but don't bother to plan their life. HOW CRAZY IS THAT? They think that their destiny will just happen to them. Sorry to burst your bubble here, but that just ain't happening.  Most people don't really know what they want...and that's what they get, nothing.

The future just doesn't happen, it's shaped by the decisions we make. Every decision we make will go into how our future will look. Do you think about that before making decisions, or are you just making the decision based on what's good for right now?  We have become a microwave society, making decisions based on what we want NOW.

Destiny isn't something to be waited for...it is something to be achieved! And just because you haven't gotten where you want to be, that isn't a good enough excuse to wait even one minute longer.  Make it happen, NOW!

What Is Your Next?

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly." ~Richard Bach

Emerson said that "Few people have an next, they live from hand to mouth without a plan, and are always at the end of their line." Is that you? It doesn't have to be! You can choose right now to have a plan, to put it into action and move forward and see the butterfly!

What is your next?  Are you living hand to mouth without a plan?  Are you always at the end of your rope?  I hate to say this but if you are, it's what you are choosing.  Choose to have a next.  Choose to create a plan.  Choose to climb up that rope to the top!  If you are having trouble seeing how this can happen, message me here and let's talk.

What do you call the end of the world? Is that the extent of what you can see? If so, that's too bad, because for many people, they are destined to lived in that dark, hopeless world, only seeing the bad and never celebrating the good.

Think of the transformation of the caterpillar...He sees its world changing and it going through something, but not really knowing what...Goes to sleep for a while, wakes up and it has WINGS, and is stuck in this sticky place that it must break free of. It struggles and struggles (because there is nothing anyone else can do to help him...might be something to learn there...) and finally breaks FREE!!!

Before, it was limited to crawling along the ground, slowly, with danger all around it...Now, it can FLY! It is free to go wherever it wants to go!!! How could this be reflected in your life?
