Ignore The Mass Of Unimportant Things

“80/20 thinking requires, and with practice enables, us to spot the few really important things that are happening and ignore the mass of unimportant things. It teaches us to see the wood for the trees.”~Richard Koch

80/20 thinking. Have you ever done it? Really? For how long? A couple of minutes? Most of us are steeped in the "mass of unimportant things" and never get to 80/20 thinking. You all know Pareto's Principle, but when have you applied it to your thinking?

Our challenge is to get away from the "mass of unimportant things" and start concentrating on the 20% of important things. Imagine what you could come up with if you spent time thinking about the important things. Our brain will naturally want to go to what is normal and known. It will take a while to get to that 20% but is it worth it!!

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said “Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least.” Too often we put the things that matter least in front of the things that matter most. Brian Tracy has a saying, he says "Eat the frog first." Think of what's most important and take care of that stuff first and the easy stuff will get done.

Spend some time thinking about the important 20% and what it means to you. Ignore the mass of unimportant things, then do what matters most first! It's a winning combination.

How Are You Using Your Imagination?

“The great, successful people of the world have used their imaginations…they think ahead and create their mental picture and then go to work materialize that picture in all its details.”~Robert Collier

Have you used your imagination to create the mental picture that you want for your future? Why not? Average people think of imagination as child's play, while the successful use theirs constantly. Everything begins as a thought first. Your inner world determines your outer world.

When was the last time you took the time to just imagine your future, down to the minute details? James Allen said that "Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are." Meaning, BE, DO HAVE. Not the reverse of HAVE, DO, BE.

About those minute details...if you don't CLEARLY imagine your future, then you will not get what you want.  See, it's a funny thing about the way the universe works...it gives you EXACTLY what you want!

Action:

Take 15 minutes today to IMAGINE your future...in complete detail! Write it down and start working towards that future...in complete detail.

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

Another Success Killer, Focusing On The Problem

"Perceptual blindness sheds much light on why we miss obvious solutions. By focusing on one thing (a problem), we miss something else (a solution)."~Michael McMillan

Another success killer is focusing on the problem rather than the solution. It is a learned behavior to focus on the solution, because our brain just wants to focus on the problem. Yes, you need to look at the problem, but only long enough to start to come up with solutions to that problem. Once you have a few solutions to work on, focus on the solutions!

What we focus on expands and unless we work on metacognition (thinking about what we think about) our focus will not be strong enough to stay on the solutions...our minds will drift back to the problem.  That's just the way our brains are wired.  What are you focusing on?  The problem or the possible solutions?  If you are focusing on the problem, I can imagine that you see the problem getting bigger...however if you focus on solutions, the problem will work itself out.

Action:
A good thing to work on is when you bring problems up at your work, at home or wherever, in addition to talking about the problem. bring a solution to the discussion. By bringing a solution to the problem, it allows the mind to search for other solutions instead of going back to the problem. Work on that this week.

What's Your Mental Picture?

“The great, successful people of the world have used their imaginations…they think ahead and create their mental picture and then go to work materialize that picture in all its details.” ~Robert Collier

Have you used your imagination to create the mental picture that you want for your future? Why not? Average people think of imagination as child's play, while the successful use theirs constantly. Everything begins as a thought first. Your inner world determines your outer world.  If your outer world is having issues, it just might be because you haven't created the mental picture of what you would like your life to be!

When was the last time you took the time to just imagine your future, down to the minute details? James Allen said that "Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are." Meaning, BE, DO HAVE. Not the reverse of HAVE, DO, BE.  Too many people say that "When I have this...I will do or be that."  WRONG!!  You have to Become first, then Do then Have.

Consider The Positive Possibilities

“Instead of placing judgments on where you find yourself, consider the positive possibilities. Instead of extending assumptions out from your limitations, imagine your most treasured dreams extending out from your current situation. ~Ralph Marston

Are you placing judgments on where you find yourself? STOP IT!! RIGHT NOW!! Start to consider the positive aspects of where you are now and stop only looking at the negatives.  You will always get more of what you are focusing on, so stop looking at the negatives!

Instead of extending your assumptions from your limitations, extend NEW assumptions that are unlimited. See, we often view the world from our limited perspective, rather than from the infinite perspective that it exists in!  Learn to see new perspectives that come from an unlimited view.  Can you do that or are you too stuck in the mire to change your view?

Take your dreams and put them to work from this point forward. Don't worry that you haven't done it until now, celebrate the fact that you are doing it now!

Action:
Stop placing judgments on where you are now.
Stop viewing the situation from a limited point of view.
Start working on your dream. NOW!!

Know. Be Known. Make A Difference!

Your Personal Philosophy

“Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out. Don't borrow someone else's plan. Develop your own philosophy and it will lead you to unique places.” ~Jim Rohn

Do you have a "Personal Philosophy" or Mission Statement for your life? Why not? According to Rohn, your personal philosophy is the determining factor in how your life turns out. Might make sense to have one...don't you think?? Do you think it might help you top have one? I do.

Make it YOUR Personal Philosophy. Don't let it be your parents, boss, teacher or who ever might want you to share or take theirs. This is YOUR Personal Philosophy and will take you to places that you have never been or even imagined.  But only if it's YOUR Personal Philosophy and not someone else's.  Take the time to imagine and then create it!  Do it Now!!

Yesterday we spoke about how Beliefs = Behaviors = Results. These all flow from your Personal Philosophy. Your Personal Philosophy needs to be in alignment with your Beliefs and Values.

Take some time right now to create your Personal Philosophy. Here's a link to help you with creating it.

Will Your Fate Be High And Great?

"I do not know beneath what sky nor on what seas is thy fate. I only know it will be high, it will be great."~Richard Hovey

Are you living life to its full potential? Really?

Most people are living at 50-75% of their life's potential and thinking they are living it full out. Take a couple of minutes to think about it...

Here's the thing, if you only give life 75% effort today, you can't give 125% tomorrow to make up for it. You can't give more than 100% at any time.

So what are you giving life today? Imagine your life giving 95% every day...WOW, would that be a huge change! What more could you do if you gave your life that extra % every day instead of just coasting and drifting? How many more people could you serve? What more could you give to the world around you?

You don't have to be stuck only giving your life 50% effort. Start by giving just 1% more today and then another 1% more the next day. The gradual change in who you are and what you give to the world will allow you to keep improving to reach that 95% every day.

"I do not know beneath what sky nor on what seas is they fate. I only know it will be high, it will be great."
