You Have A Choice

"You may not be able to control the events that occur during the day, especially those events that are unexpected and challenging. But, you definitely have a choice whether you are going to allow these events to ruin your day, and how you are going to face these challenges." ~Barry Gottlieb

Do you ever get up "on the wrong side of the bed?" Ever had a "bad hair day?"  Ever feel like everything is going wrong and it will never get better?  How do you handle them? Do you let them ruin your day or do you change your mindset before leaving the house? You do have a choice in how you respond to those events. Be sure to exercise that choice. Don't stay stuck in that negativity.

Too many people have allowed themselves to stay stuck in that negativity.  They enjoy being there!  It's the pain they know which will always be less than the pain they don't know.  If that's you, start counting your blessings.  You're alive.  You live in the greatest country in the world (the one everyone else in the world wants to come to) and so on.  You could probably count 100 blessings in 5 minutes.  Well, that 5 minutes would be the best time spent to get you out of that negativity.

Stephen Covey said "If you start to think the problem is 'out there,' stop yourself. That thought is the problem." Too often we get caught up in thinking the problem is 'out there' when it is really with us. Realize that you are in control of your life, no one else is. It will be your choice to either react or respond. Reaction is without thought. Response requires thought. Always respond, never react.

Are You Stuck In Negativity?

How Do You Respond Or Do You React?

Bring the Future into the Present

“Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now”~Alan Lakein

Do you have your plan for success for 2011? Is it written down? Really?? Only 3% of people have their plans written down. Only 3%!! There are a lot of reasons that people won't write their goals down but it's my belief that the main reason is that people don't want to have to take responsibility for the plans that they make. Why? Fear of failure, of letting themselves down, fear of success, change. Take your pick. Which one is it for you?

Most people don't plan, they just react. Is your life and business organized or is it scattered? Have you planned for your success or do you just think that it will happen? When you make a plan, you cultivate optimism. You'll feel that you are growing in a meaningful direction which will help you rise above day-to-day setbacks and deal with all those reasons why you haven't planned.

If you haven't Created Your Success Plan for 2011, it's not too late. Join us this Friday.

Impose Your Terms on Life

"If you haven't the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you." T.S. Eliot

Wow...how many people are going through life simply accepting what life offers them??? I know a lot of people that are stuck in that place. It's a real shame, because our life is what WE MAKE OF IT, not what is presented to us.

So, what's a person to do? Gain or create the personal strength to impose your own terms on life! I know, I can hear you now..."But David, the economy, my 401 now 201k, all this stuff that's happening to me." Do you hear the excuses? It's not the stuff that happens to us...it's how we deal with the stuff that happens to us. WE are in control of our responses. Be in control of your responses and forget about reactions.

Action:
Realize TODAY, that you are in control of everything that happens to you. You can react or respond to those things. Work on RESPONDING rather than reacting. And impose your terms on life!

Change is Simple

"Change is not easy. But it is simple. Things will always change. We don't have a choice about that, but we do have a choice on how we react to change. The choice really boils down to this...either we manage change, or it will manage us."

CHANGE IS SIMPLE!! But it's not easy Things will always change, so why is it that we try to stop change, fight against it or ignore it? Some things need to change, some things don't. Allow the things that need to change to change and stop the things that don't need to change. It's that simple, but it's not easy.

Here's the thing...we have a choice as to how we react to change. It is our choice alone, no one elses. Too often we act like we don't have a choice and we have to accept whatever comes our way. NOT!!! It is your choice, your decision, your ability to react the way that you want to react to change. React with your power, with who you are!

So, manage change through your choices or be managed by change through your choice to not choose, your decision to allow life to happen TO you and be a victim of change. Don't allow who you are to become a victim of change. Rise above it. Choose to react the way you want to react.

Reaction or Response?

“A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction.”~Rita Mae Brown

Do you react to life or respond to life? Really? Have you thought about it before? We have been so programmed to respond that it takes a big change to respond rather than react.

What is your first thought when someone cuts you off in traffic? Is it to bless them? Is it to curse them? Is it to understand that they are more important than you are so they can do that? (that's my favorite)

What is the difference between reacting and responding? Good question! Reacting is when you don't even think about what you are doing, you just do it. Responding is taking a pause, thinking about the appropriate response and then responding.

Stimulus - Pause - Response. Stimulus - Pause - Response.

Try it today and see if you day goes any better...
